General Clothing Tips for Florida Weather:

Hot Weather

  • Top: A lightweight, long or short-sleeve shirt or rash guard that is quick-drying.

  • Bottom: Lightweight, quick-drying shorts or swim shorts.

  • Feet: Breathable cotton or moisture-wicking socks, and closed-toed water shoes with sturdy soles that are also suitable for climbing and exploring. They should be breathable, quick-drying, and durable.

  • Head: A quick-dry, lightweight hat for sun protection, or apply sunscreen before class.

Chilly Weather

  • Top: Merino wool or fleece thermal long-sleeve shirt, fleece jacket, and a lightweight, waterproof, and windproof jacket.

  • Bottom: Fleece-lined pants or waterproof pants with insulation for warmth and flexibility. Waterproof rain bib pants are a good option for over a base layer pant, too.

  • Shoes: Soft, flexible waterproof boots for playing in wet areas, or closed-toed shoes that are rugged enough for splashing and climbing, paired with wool socks.

  • Head: A warm hat if needed.

Cold Weather

  • Top: Merino wool or fleece thermal long-sleeve shirt, fleece jacket, and a waterproof and windproof jacket (with hood).

  • Bottom: Fleece-lined pants or waterproof pants with insulation for warmth and flexibility, or both (thermal leggings under waterproof pants). Waterproof rain bib pants are a good option for over a base layer pant, too.

  • Feet: Wool socks to keep feet dry and warm, and soft, flexible, insulated waterproof boots for playing in wet areas—boots should be flexible enough to climb and play.

  • Head: A warm hat is a good idea on colder Florida days (typically January and February).
