About OWL founder and lead guide,

Lauren Lyman

Hi, I’m Lauren Lyman (Ms. Lauren)! 🌿🦉

I founded Our Wild Learning (OWL) in 2025 to offer outdoor learning experiences that invite children and families to cultivate meaningful relationships with the natural world. In an era of increasing disconnection from nature, I believe early outdoor experiences are foundational to developing empathy, stewardship, healthy development, and a sense of belonging in the natural world and our local community.

Through unhurried, nature-immersive classes and thoughtfully curated, sensory-rich invitations, OWL encourages children to slow down, wonder deeply, and form core memories that nurture lifelong care for the earth. My most cherished core childhood memories are of long, unstructured days outdoors — experiences that continue to inform how I see and value the world. Rooted in forest school principles, OWL offers child-led outdoor learning that honors nature as an essential teacher.

I bring 11 years of experience spanning Montessori education, forest school education (FSTI-certified forest school teacher and director), nannying, and swim instruction. I am committed to cultivating a welcoming, safe, and wonder-filled outdoor environment for children walking through age six and their families. I hold current infant and child CPR and First Aid certification, as well as a Level 2 background screening with the City of St. Petersburg.

I live in St. Pete with my husband and our cat, Leon. When I’m not being OWL’s “Wonder Guide”, you’ll likely find me tending to my ever-growing collection of plants, playing outside with my niece, or exploring the outdoors, especially anything to do with water!
